Time on the water without the aid of a motor; just a guy, a kayak, some light tackle and the will to find fish. Hope you enjoy some of the pics, vids, and stories/reports from the blog of one kayak crazed angler.
I put together a video that I shot a few weeks back out on Lake Huron here in Michigan. The scene is the thumb of Michigan along some really quiet beach front property. I loved this spot because there was no boat traffic at all, due to the fact that there was no boat launch for miles!
ADVANTAGE: ME! lol
This is the second year I've fished in the KFGL Charity tournament. All proceeds went to the Make-a-wish foundation and I believe the total raised was upwards of $2,000. A nice little event for a good cause. A ton of fish were caught and released, many from Lake St. Clair. You could fish anywhere you wanted to basically for this event, but Lake St. Clair was a popular destination....as it always is.
Two kayaks were given away to winners in two different categories. Many other prizes were raffled away as well. I ended up scoring a 34 inch pike that won a "big fish" prize pack! Thanks to all that helped me get the shots to put this little video recap together.
Spring fishing on Lake Huron has fast become my favorite adventure in my
Hobie.
So far this spring I had struck out with mother nature as it has been
terribly cold and rainy. The waters have been complete mud, making fishing
impossible. This was my first successful trip, and it was quite a relief to see
my fishing pole take a big bend as a nice king took a swipe at my offering.
I launched out of Lakeport, Michigan into the vast blue of Lake Huron and
ended up going 2-2 with a silvery, stout 14 pound Spring King and a fresh Lake
Huron Laker weighing in at 10 pounds.
About time!! Can't wait to do it again, hope it's sooner than later.
While I wait patiently for the hard water to morph back into it's liquid state, I made a few trips out to Lake St. Clair for some ice fishing. I brought along my boy Jack to enjoy some of Michigan's best ice fishing locations. We caught a few, but I think I caught more perch on video than I caught on my jigs for sure. Take a look at a video Jack and I made with my new Drift Ghost and Drift HD.
